Bedřich Smetana: From my Homeland

The Moravian town of Luhačovice: for some, an ideal spa retreat; for others, a place where Leoš Janáček sought rest and inspiration. And for the past 30 years, for many young musicians it has been home to the Václav Hudeček Academy. Under the patronage of the legendary violinist Václav Hudeček, aspiring and highly ambitious players of the violin – long called a royal or noble instrument – gather here to advance their skills. Jan Novák and David Kubita are shining examples of how talent, refined by immense diligence, can transform ambition into genuine artistry.

During his studies there, he received numerous awards at prestigious competitions, including the Josef Micka Competition, the Josef Muzika Competition, and the Kocian Violin Competition. After eight years of study at the Grammar and Music School of Prague, he was admitted to the Prague Conservatory, where he studied in the class of Jiří Vodička. During his period, he further expanded his artistic experience through a solo performance of Shostakovich’s Violin concerto no. 2 with the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he also concluded this two-year conservatory program.

David Kubita frequently performs with his mother, harpist Jana Boušková, and has appeared with her in concert in Hong Kong. He regularly participates in masterclasses led by Jiří Fišer, Jakub Fišer, Štěpán Ježek, and Pavel Kudelásek. In 2025, he was awarded Second Prize at the Václav Hudeček Master Academy. In addition, he had the exceptional opportunity to collaborate with the world-renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov.

As an orchestral musician, he regularly collaborates with leading professional symphony and chamber orchestras, including the Czech Philharmonic, PKF - Prague Philharmonia, Talich Chamber Orchestra, and the Haydn Ensemble.
