The Nutcracker and The Sugar Plum Fairy

A magical fairy tale about the battle between good and evil, filled with love, anger, friendship, courage, and enchantment!

In the Kingdom of Sweets and Chocolate, a spoiled young prince rules with the help of an old Magician and the Sugar Plum Fairy. But danger lurks in the shadows—an evil sorcerer, the Mouse King, is determined to take the throne and destroy the prince. The Magician tries to help but accidentally turns the prince into a wooden Nutcracker toy!

Through another spell, the Nutcracker finds himself in the hands of a kind-hearted girl named Adélka. With her bravery and love, she breaks the curse and helps him chase away the Mouse King. But the battle is far from over! The wicked sorcerer rushes back to the Candy Palace to seize power, and so, Adélka and the Nutcracker set off on a thrilling adventure through the magical Kingdom of Sweets to stop him.

This enchanting fairy tale features the beautiful music of P. I. Tchaikovsky, with lyrics by Jan Turek. Young audiences will be treated to exciting battles, hilarious moments, and breathtaking performances of classical ballet on pointe!

Workshops

Foley Workshop (reservation required)

How come you can hear footsteps in animated films, or the crunch of a hero savouring their favourite snack? Thanks to sound effects that bring the film to life. That’s the job of the foley artist. In this workshop, visitors will get to try their hand at creating sound for an animated scene – and discover that even a humble celery stick can sound like a cracking bone.

Voices Full of Emotion (no reservation required)

What does a broken heart sound like? Or a great triumph? In opera, emotions aren’t whispered – they’re sung out loud! Operatic singing brings power, drama and deep feeling to a story. In this workshop, visitors will try what it’s like to fill a whole stage with nothing but their own voice – and maybe discover a soprano, a tenor, or a hidden passion for arias within themselves.

From Idea to Adventure (no reservation required)

No story, no action‍

Create a mini-script for your own animated story!

No great adventure starts without a good story – and that takes some preparation. How else would your hero know where to go, how to beat the villains and save the world?

Your hero, your way‍

Create puppets for your own animated story!

There’s no adventure without a main character. Whether it’s a brave knight, a mysterious fairy or a chatty raccoon, someone’s got to go on the journey. Now it’s time to give them (or her!) a body, hands, eyes – and maybe even a little personality. Because who else is going to save the day?

Build your own world‍

Create sets for your own animated story!

A world won’t build itself. Every hero needs somewhere to go – a dark forest, a haunted castle or a forgotten planet. Sets are like a map for your adventure: they define where you’ll fight, lose and triumph. So let’s create a stage to remember!

Animation Workshop (no reservation required)

The story’s ready, the hero’s ready, and the world is in place. Now comes the most important part: bringing it all to life! Giving the scene breath, the puppet movement and the story rhythm. Step by step, frame by frame – this is where the magic of animation begins.

And don’t forget: even the greatest adventures begin with a single tiny movement.

If you’d like to join the Animation Workshop, we recommend bringing your own smartphone – your personal animated film will stay with you as a keepsake. We’ll be using the free app Stop Motion (available on Google Play and the App Store).

Technical equipment will also be available on site for those who prefer not to use their own device.

Place

Rudolfinum

The Rudolfinum is one of the most important Neo-Renaissance edifices in the Czech Republic. In its conception as a multi-purpose cultural centre it was quite unique in Europe at the time of its construction. Based on a joint design by two outstanding Czech architects, Josef Zítek and Josef Schultz, a magnificent building was erected serving for concerts, as a gallery, and as a museum. The grand opening on 7 February 1885 was attended by Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria, in whose honour the structure was named. In 1896 the very first concert of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra took place in the Rudolfinum's main concert hall, under the baton of the composer Antonín Dvořák whose name was later bestowed on the hall.
